Mathias Hanson

Mathias Hanson is a teaching assistant and a Ph. D candidate at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, working under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Sam Verboven. After practising as a lawyer for several years, Mathias worked for the compliance department of a renowned Belgian private bank. During this period, he complemented his legal background with a Master’s in Management at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and he developed a strong interest inBRUSSELS HUMANITIES, SCIENCES & ENGINEERING CAMPUS statistics and machine learning, which led him to join the VUB Data Analytics Lab. For his current research, he combines his previously gained knowledge by focusing on the development of machine learning systems for the detection of financial crime in line with the relevant legal frameworks.
